SLAKTHUSATELJÉERNA is pleased to host a screening and talk by Canadian visual artists Richard Ibghy & Marilou Lemmens. The duo will discusses their recent work and some of the modes of operation recurrent in their practice, including materializing social and economic abstractions, engaging in practical experiments developed in workshop like situations, and imagining the world through speculative gestures.
They will screen the video “Real failure needs no excuse” (2012). The video consists of a series of actions filmed in an empty office building in Glasgow and investigates the transgressive potential of non-productive action and its relation to labour, the workplace and the imagination.
Most recently, their work was presented in solo exhibitions at Jane Lombard Gallery, New York (2017), the Owens Art Gallery, Sackville, Canada (2017), the International Studio & Curatorial Program, New York (2016), Esker Foundation Contemporary Art Gallery, Calgary (2016), Leonard & Bina Ellen Art Gallery, Montreal (2016), VOX, Montreal (2014), and Trinity Square Video, Toronto (2014). They have participated in a number of group exhibitions, including the XIII Bienal de Cuenca, Ecuador (2016), 14th Istanbul Biennial (2015), La Biennale de Montréal (2014), Manif d’art 7: Quebec City Biennial (2014) and 10th Sharjah Biennial (2011).
