AIR Drop is an artist-run residency program housed by Slakthusateljéerna Studio Association in Stockholm. AIR Drop Stockholm/Istanbul gives artists based in Sweden and Turkey the opportunity to change environment for five weeks. The residency includes a public presentation and is funded by Framtidens Kultur. The project aims to provide space for individual practices and to create artists’ networks between individuals, locations and organisations.

ABOUT
Slakthusateljéerna is proud to announce the first Open Call for AIR Drop in collaboration with artist-run 5533 in Istanbul.
AIR Drop is an artist-run residency program housed by Slakthusateljéerna Studio Association in Stockholm. Slakthusateljéerna is a non-profit members’ organisation which provides studio spaces for 25 artists and a project space for public activities. 5533 is an independent non-profit art space emphasizing dialogue, networking and interaction.
AIR Drop Stockholm/Istanbul gives artists based in Sweden and Turkey the opportunity to change environment and work in a new situation. The project aims to provide space for individual practices and to create artists’ networks between individuals, locations and organisations.
WHEN & WHERE
Exchange period 1: May + first week in June 2012
Exchange period 2: September + first week in October 2012
During each period one artist based in Sweden and one artist based in Turkey will work in Istanbul/Stockholm. The artists travelling from Turkey will be provided studio space at Slakthusateljéerna, Stockholm, and the artists travelling from Sweden will be will be provided studio space at 5533, Istanbul. Each exchange period is followed by a public presentation at Slakthusateljéerna by participating artists (first week in June 2012 + first week in October 2012).
CONDITIONS
Each selected artist is provided with:
- Studio space
- Travel costs
- 1 000 Euro for living costs
- Arrangement of the public event
Regarding accommodation we see a possibility that the artists swap apartments with each other. If this is not possible AIR Drop will provide for accommodation. Whether the artists can take part in such exchange or not will not affect the selection process.
The artists are expected to commit themselves full-time to the project during the residency and take part in the public event.
The residents must provide for their own insurance during the travelling and stay.
HOW TO APPLY
To be considered for the AIR Drop Stockholm/Istanbul please provide us with a short letter in English describing your artistic practice and your aim and objectives with the stay.The application should also include a PDF with recent work, a CV, contact details and link to website if applicable. Mark on the application if you prefer to travel in May or September and if you would be interested in swapping your apartment with the other participating artist.
Please note that AIR Drop is only considering artists based in Turkey and Sweden at this point.

SELECTION PROCESS
We are happy to work with artists Annika Eriksson (DE/SE), Can Altay (TR) and Meriç Algün Ringborg (TR/SE), who together form the reference group that will undertake the selection process. With different artistic practices and diverse experiences, they are all very familiar with both the Turkish and Swedish context.
We would like to see applicants who have not yet had many chances to travel in this way and whose practices clearly would benefit from this kind of support.
All applicants will receive an answer by email by mid February.
